Here is a listing and description of some of the special Lancaster County events taking place in October of 2010.

The dates, times, and admission prices are accurate as of the time of this posting. However, it is possible that changes may occur as the year progresses.

Ephrata

Apple Dumplings & Musical Delights- Enjoy a delicious apple dumpling with cinnamon and sugar wrapped in a flaky crust from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Proceeds go towards buying original Cloister artifacts.

On the 9th the Ephrata Cloister Chorus will perform the music of Ephrata at 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM in the historic Saal meetinghouse.

Community Days: Discover the activities of the Cloister during this special hands-on educational program. Stations present a variety of activities such as colonial clothing, printing, and the life of Ephrata’s earliest residents. Advance registration is strongly encouraged.

Lancaster City

First Friday - It is always a great time to visit Lancaster City on the first Friday of each month. Experience the downtown as 0ver 60 galleries, museums, shops, and restaurants extend their hours.

Harvest Days with the Pumpkin Patch - Your entire family will enjoy experiencing a 1700s and 1800s harvest, cooking demonstrations and craft-making exhibits. There will be horse drawn wagon rides, opportunities to pick your own pumpkins from the patch, and plenty of hands-on childrens activities. Of course, there will be plenty of lively entertainment and great food too.

Juniata and Snyder County Fall Foliage Trip - Tour genealogical and historic sites to which the Pennsylvania Germans migrated in the 18th century, including the newly restored Joseph Hochstetler homestead.

Lititz

The 9th Annual Lititz Chocolate Walk - "Trick or Treat for grownups” is often how the Lititz Chocolate Walk has been described by visitors. During this one-of-a-kind experience, you can sample decadent delights prepared by local candy makers and pastry chefs.

Over 20 chocolate tasting locations will be set up throughout downtown offering you chocolate treats as you stroll along enjoying the beauty and shops of downtown Lititz. There will also be live musical entertainment, a Chocolate Poetry Contest, and a Dark Chocolate Taste Test.

  • Admission: Free admission to meet and greet all the chocolatiers. HOWEVER, true chocoholics will want to become a "Chocolate Walker." Chocolate Walkers need to purchase an official Chocolate Walk button and punch card which enables the wearer to receive a free sample at each of the two dozen stops along the route. Buttons go on sale on July 1, 2010 at participating locations for the advance sale price of $15.00. Beginning October 1, 2010, the cost will increase to $20.00 per button. Button sales are limited to 2000. Patrons are encouraged to purchase their buttons in advance since they sell out quickly. ALL proceeds are donated to the Schreiber Pediatric Center, the Lititz Public Library, and Lititz Kiwanis children's programs.



Manheim

Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire- Welcome to the 30th season of the Renaissance Faire. Celebrate the traditions of music, arts and literature from 16th century England with hundreds of costumed merriemakers, Renaissance merchants, period foods, ales from a microbrewery, music, dance and over 80 stage shows including remarkably lifelike battles of lance and shield by the Faire's jousting troupe.

Mount Joy

Fourth Friday in Mount Joy - Downtown Mount Joy explodes with things to do with over 20 destinations to enjoy on Fourth Fridays, with a different theme each month. Ronks


The Great Train Robbery - As you enjoy a 45-minute ride to Paradise, PA and back, be on guard for a gang of robbers rumored to be in the Strasburg area. Not to worry, though, law enforcement will be on hand to protect the passengers and see that justice is served.

This fun and comical ride will feature adventuresome robbers, lots of "loot" and even entertainment. It's a ride you'll never forget ... but bring your camera to capture the action.

Strasburg

Model Railroading Days - For fans of model railroad building, this event is for you. During the weekend you will be able to attend a great variety of exciting railroad model building workshops and activities. You will enjoy witnessing firsthand the complex operating layouts as well as demonstrations of the latest products at both the Railroad Museum and National Toy Train Museum.

Terre Hill


Paranormal Tour of Lancaster County: Leave the jack-o-lantern home and the candy on the door step this year and make way for a tour filled with mystery, trickery, treats and lots of fun. This tour will explore things of a historical ghostly nature.

Among the highlights are an evening tour of the Terre Hill graveyard, lantern in hand; discussions with paranormal writer Charles J. Adams III who will intrigue you with his stories and local legends; a halloween-themed tour of the Fulton Opera House in downtown Lancaster as well as of the Cocalico Valley Historical Society (this 19th century building, once a funeral home, houses one of the area's most extensive collections of local artifacts); an exploration of a mysterious “room” from the old Mountain Spring Hotel; an exhibit of “spirited” pictures; a spooky excursion to the vacant 150-year old Kauffmans Hardware Store where you'll never guess what's in the basement; and more.
