Antique Fairs, Auctions and Mud Sales

Strasburg Spring Consignment & Mud Sale - Visit this annual Mud sale and watch (or participate!)as lots of items including home-made furniture, antiques, quilts, crafts, farm machinery, horses, mules, farm animals, tools, groceries, fruit, and homemade food will be auctioned off.

Strasburg Heritage Day Antique and Craft Fair - Strasburg Heritage Day, now in its 36th year, features an outdoor antique and craft fair with up to 100 exhibit spaces in an open park setting. There will be plenty of food, music and a hand made quilt raffle. The Strasburg Museum will also be open.

Family Fun

Reading Railroad Days - Observe the 327th birthday of the Commonwealth, amid Pennsylvania made and operated historic rolling stock at the Keystone State’s official railroad museum.

Walt Disney's Backyard Railroad -Walt Disney always loved trains and he was one of America’s greatest railroad fans, preserving real steam railroading at Disney theme parks throughout the world.

Members of the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society, including nationally-recognized Disney authority Michael Broggie (son of Disney’s first Imagineer Roger Broggie) will treat Museum visitors to a personal glimpse of this man who loved trains and the legends that surrounded him.

Take a ride on a miniature train, delight in fun Disney film clips, photographs and memorabilia and take advantage of activities and surprises the entire family will enjoy

Pennsys Days 2008 - The Pennsys Days Annual Weekend is traditionally filled with interesting activities for the entire family. There will be exhibits of original work by railroad artists and authors; displays of memorabilia and collectibles; historical presentations; tours of locomotives and railroad cars; operating model railroads and other special events for Railroad Museum visitors. The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society, Philadelphia chapter.

Day Out With Thomas - Join Thomas the Tank Engine, a full-sized, operating steam locomotive, as he chugs into town with his friends. Ride a train pulled by Thomas and meet Sir Topham Hatt. There will be storytelling, live music, and more fun for kids..

Reading Railroad Days - Enjoy the remarkable Reading Railroad trains of eastern Pennsylvania history through tours of Reading Company equipment, a huge operating model railroad and special presentations.

Barons & Builders Day Camp - Kids build, create, learn and play as they explore railroads and railroad history through a program of unique tours, innovative hands-on projects and special demonstrations.

Railroad Family Days - Sing along with popular railroad songs, enjoy legendary railroad stories, view operating model railroad layouts and displays, make take-home crafts and learn important railroad safety messages. This event provides a variety of other activities designed especially for families.

Hogwarts Express Parties - Children are encouraged to dress like their favorite Harry Potter character (optional) as they thrill to a reading from one of the J. K. Rowling new classic novels in the Railroad Museum’s historic P70 coach.

Kids also will enjoy nibbling on an especially "horrible" snack and making a take-home craft following the reading. Hogwarts Express Party activities are recommended for children ages 8 to 13, but children and adults of all ages who enjoy Harry Potter are welcome to participate

  • Model Railroading Days - For fans of model railroad building, this event is for you. During the weekend you will be able to attend a great variety of exciting railroad model building workshops and activities. You will enjoy witnessing firsthand the complex operating layouts as well as demonstrations of the latest products at both the Railroad Museum and National Toy Train Museum.

    Trains and Troops - Trains & Troops is the Museum's annual tribute to the U. S. Armed Forces, American railroads and all those who served, and are serving, overseas and on the home front in defense of our nation. Experience a fascinating array of military and military railroad service-related archival posters, uniforms, equipment, field gear, maps, books and photographs on display from participating exhibitors, as well as from the Railroad Museum's own collection. You will get to enjoy riding the troop trains on the Strasburg Rail Road with living history re-enactments on both days. The special train will be comprised of a Strasburg Rail Road historic steam locomotive, a boxcar, a military flatcar from the Railroad Museum’s collection, two coaches and a caboose.

    Easter Bunny Train - Your whole family will enjoy a ride through beautiful farmland with Peter Cottontail as your Conductor. Peter will delight boys and girls with an Easter surprise as he greets them on board this special train. The countryside is especially beautiful during the springtime.

    Voices of Christmas - An engaging excursion of Christmases past, the show begins in Victorian times, delving into the people and stories behind Christmas traditions.

    Highlighting the voices that have carried the Christmas message throughout generations and returning to the announcement of the birth of the King of Kings.

    Miracle of Christmas - Presenting the lives of Mary and Joseph focusing on their relationship, experience of angelic visits, and the miracle of their son's birth.

    The show culminates in a joyful celebration as kings, angels and shepherds converge to welcome the infant King.

    Taking the Swing Train '40s Dance - Come and swing to the popular Sound of Roses live band among the trains in the Railroad Museum’s awe inspiring Rolling Stock Hall.

    For extra fun, you can even come in uniform or ‘40s clothing.
